Morinaga Products
Morinaga is a one of Japan’s largest distributors of candy and other confectionary goods. It often makes candy in conjunction with popular characters such as Disney or Hello Kitty to make unique treats like Morinaga Disney Chocolate Cookies, or Morinaga Hello Kitty Kawaii Cookies.
Morinaga was started in 1899 when Taichiro Morinaga returned from a trip to the United States, where he had tried chocolate for the first time. He then opened his own chocolate store in Tokyo, making it the first chocolate retailer in the country. He trademarked the famous Angel Morinaga symbol, and from there began selling caramel and milk chocolate candies. Japanese candy before Morinaga was usually related to either a sweet bean paste, or honey.
