Kompeito is a Japanese candy originally made in Portugal. The word "konpeito" comes from the Portuguese word confeito, sugar candy. Kompeito was introduced to Japan around the 15th and 16th centuries by traders from Europe. Sugar technology had not yet been established in Japan in those days. Konpeito used a lot of sugar which was very rare and expensive.
*drools* As a girl who grew up adoring rock candy Konpeito are 1000x better <333 Not that there is a huge difference in taste; rather, these have no added flavours (i.e. cherry, grape, blue-whatever) yet each colour seems a bit different - white are my favourite ~ There's just something about the shape and size of these things that I adore so very much.

Bought these for stocking stuffers last year for my two teens...They went nuts for them! Warning: they are pure sugar! But each one lasts a long time, and my teens didn't eat alot of them at once. They are always asking me for more!

Just like the candies you see in Spirited Away. These are tiny delicious rock candy.
