5 College Student Essentials (Asian Food Edition)

Being a college student can be immensely challenging period in life, especially if you have if you have a limited resources, such as budget and time. Most of us at Asian Food Grocer were once college students and can emphasize with those meager times. But not to fret, we’re here to help. We’ve compiled a list of pantry essentials and meal prep tips that are budget friendly, convenient, and most of all – tasty. We hope this helps!

1. The holy trinity: rice, luncheon meat, soy sauce.
01087-orchids-jasmine-rice-xl• Buy rice in bulk and pop it in a rice cooker. You can make a week’s worth of rice all at once. The rice cooker can cook your rice in a matter of minutes. Are you looking for rice that’s even more instant? Microwave this rice for 3 min. and you’re good to go.

• Canned luncheon meat. Like spam, but better. Pan-fry it, eat it with rice, make a sandwich out of it, or slice it to make hors d'oeuvre. The possibilities are endless.
Soy sauce, the essential Asian condiment. If you really have nothing in the fridge and only rice, you can eat rice with soy sauce. Seriously, it’s quite good.
• If you’re feeling fancy – sprinkle some seasonings onto your rice, such as the furikake seasonings ranging from seaweed to shrimp bits. Our Kamameshi seasoning is quite popular for its aromatic vegetable and mushroom flavorings.

2. When all fails: instant ramen. It takes no more than 5 min. to cook. The noodles are inexpensive and filling, especially if you spruce up the meal sides of egg, veggies, and spam.

3. Caffeine, we love you: instant tea & coffee.
• It goes without saying, as a student, you might have had your fair share of all-nighters. If you need an extra kick of energy and focus, we recommend our top selling instant milk tea. The smooth blend of hot cream and sweet tea has helped us through many melt-downs stressful times.

4. Miso soup for the soul.
Miso soup is a light, semi-clear soup that’s great for sick days or hangovers. Made with fermented soybean, the surprisingly flavorful soup is nutritious and comforting. The instant miso soup taste just as good as the miso paste in which you would dilute with boiled water.

5. Midnight munchies: Pocky & Pretz.
Whether it’s for focus or procrastination, snacking will at least stave off hunger, which can be quite distracting when you have to study. One of the perks of eating Pocky or Pretz (beside the deliciousness) is that they are mess-free. Shaped as thin biscuit sticks, they do not crumble. I mean, who has time to clean?
