Fried Walnuts

If you want to make a splash at your next dinner party, try making there simple and sinful sweet fried walnuts. Walnuts are also a great source of iron and protean for those looking to supplement a vegetarian diet.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Boiling Water
  • 1 1/2 cup Halved Walnuts
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil

Directions

  • 1. Pour boiling water over nuts and let stand 2 to 3 minutes. Drain well. Transfer to baking sheet.
  • 2. Sprinkle with sugar and mix well. Spread in single layer and let stand overnight to dry.
  • 3. Heat oil in wok or skillet until very hot. Add nuts in small batches and fry until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes; watch carefully because they can burn quickly.
  • 4. Drain on rack. Store in tightly covered container in cool, dry place.
  • 5. (Oil can be strained and used several more times for this recipe.)
  • 6. Makes 1 1/2 cups.
